American Auto Industry – Where Is It Going?
By tdnestor | July 29, 2008
The American Auto Industry is the single greatest engine of economic activity in the United States.
America’s automakers – General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler have played a central roll in the development and growth of the American economy and remain at the heart of industrial America.
The American companies face unprecedented competitive challenges from auto producers around the world. They not only have a challenge from the foreign auto market, but from right here in America. The consumers in America have become an unprecedented challenge by buying foreign automobiles, which take away from America’s economy. Each of our Big 3 American auto manufactures had problems in the past with some of their line of products. A lot of the auto consumers turned to the foreign market looking for a better automobile. A lot of them felt they had found a better product in the foreign market and refuse to buy another American product. As nature would have it, their children followed with the same trend until our automobile industry has been faced with downsizing and laying their workers off. They are also buying out their older workers that are making the higher wages and replacing them with lower paid younger workers. This has to be done for them to be more competitive with the foreign market.
A lot of the foreign auto manufactures are building new plants while our own domestic auto manufactures are closing plants. The automobile manufactures, along with the industries that depend on them, is the largest industry in America. They have become known as “The Heartbeat of America” and we are giving that away to the foreign auto market. If you will really, I mean really, take a look at how the auto industry affects the American economy, you will see why they have the title of “Heartbeat of America”. Toyota is pressing GM as the No 1 auto manufacturer in the world. Will the foreign auto industry soon be known as “The Heartbeat of America”? Sad isn’t it, especially, when you can see how America is treated by the foreign countries that control our oil products and the price of gas at the pumps. All they have to do is say “we are cutting production” or “price per barrel of oil is going up” and the price at the pump goes up, and “There is NOTHING we can do about it”. Can we afford to have the foreign countries control the Heartbeat of America?
A lot of the best cars made are now made right here in America by our own American Automobile Industry. We have met the challenges from the auto producers around the world by surpassing their quality of competitive vehicles. We feel that our own auto industry, which has been at the heart of America and the central role in the development and growth of the American economy, deserves a serious look when it comes time for your investment in a new automobile and the American economy. You are not only buying a new car, but also buying into your future and your children’s future.
America! Are we really saving by thinking that “buying foreign automobiles for whatever reasons???” is the answer. Thinking that “we can get better gas mileage”, thinking that “we will have a better car”, thinking that “we will have a more prestigious car” or thinking that “we are saving money” is not America’s or your answer? It may look good in the short term, but let’s look at it realistically. Now that enough Americans are buying foreign automobiles to affect the economy, what is happening? GM, Ford and Chrysler have downsized and a lot of people have lost their jobs. Industry that depends on the auto manufactures have either gone out of business or cut production which causes more layoffs. Wages are being cut or raises have almost deceased. New home production has all but stopped, more jobs lost. People can no longer pay for their homes, foreclosures way up. Businesses are leaving the state, loosing revenue. Where does it stop??? As a consumer we did it to ourselves along with some bad or panic decisions by the industry. Can we correct it???
I say we can. Put GM, Ford and Chrysler back in the driver seat by being more loyal to our own domestic auto manufactures and less loyal to our foreign competition. GM, Ford and Chrysler need to be operating in the black and not spending all their efforts trying to keep their head above water and staying ahead of the competition. They need to concentrate more on “How do we make America independent of foreign oil.”
Check back later, we have some statistics on America’s economy and the affects that America’s auto industry and the foreign auto industry has on it.
